Lucy
Lucy is our three-year-old American Cocker spaniel. If you know anything about Cocker’s, you know this is a pretty typical stance for them. They were originally bred as hunting dogs and were specifically adept and flushing birds, particularly the woodcock, hence their moniker…Cocker. Lucy spends a lot of time with her nose to the ground sniffing out new scents.
High School State Indoor Track & Field Championships
Saturday the family went to the High School State Indoor Track & Field Championships. As you have seen the past couple of posts our youngest granddaughter is in her senior year and having a grand season. Saturday was another great day for her. For the third meet in a row she set a new personal record of 5′-7″ in the high jump and that tied the existing state record. However, on this day the top three jumpers would all clear the bar at this height. The winner and team mate of our granddaughter had record setting day and finished with a leap of 5′-10″! Still the granddaughter took second place in the state. The outdoor season will begin in a couple of weeks and there will be new opportunities for her to reach new heights.

I love photographing high school sports. I can get close enough to the action to get some nice images. Typically, you are not allowed to photograph college events without press credentials, but high school doesn’t have many of those restrictions so I spend a lot of time at local games. Spring is here and that means baseball, softball, track and soccer are on the agenda. Stay tuned for more adventures.
One of the great things about an indoor track meet is that the track is banked in curves like a NASCAR track so you can get ground level shots without having to lay down on the ground.
A decent telephoto lens and a position at the end of the track can produce some nice results. This is why I love photography and why I shoot with a camera instead of a cell phone.
On this day I took about 250 images and typically there will be 10-15 that I really like. The rest will be deleted. If you have never been to a high school sporting event, get out there and support the team. Most events are $5 or $6, which is cheap entertainment and you won’t be disappointed.
Monday’s Music Moves Me
I missed posting last week due to an out-of-town appointment. That’s a story for another day and I will probably post the whole story in the near future. Just look for a post titled “Happy Sox”. It may take more than one post to tell the whole story. Okay, back to the music. The theme this week is a song with a name in it. The most beautiful name in the world is Jesus. Scripture tells us that there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. “Oh What a Beautiful Name”.

Driller's Place 
Photography is a hobby I hope to pursue in my retirement (which will be sooner rather than later). I only have a couple of old digital point and shoot cameras from the first decade of this century. Haven’t used them in years. I’ve been relying on my iPhone SE and you’re right, I would never be able to do any of this work. It’s wonderful that you are such an involved Grandpa. That relationship with your grands when they are all grown will be a blessing for you.

You capture action shoots beautifully! This is something I’d like to try but I have no reason to go to a high school to photograph events. Who knows, maybe I’ll go sometime just for the fun of it to give it a try. 🙂 I love your song choice, “What A Beautiful Name” is so purrfect because there is no other name as beautiful as our Jesus! I do go to events that I have no personal involvement, but it gives me some interesting images for the blog and folks seem to enjoy them. Occasionally I will meet one of the parents and give them an image of their student that they would never have otherwise and that makes both of us happy.

There is a special joy that comes with watching the grandkids, regardless of their interests. We have attended soccer matches, baseball games, dance competitions and track meets. Each event has it’s own brand of entertainment.

Some great pictures here. I’ve been tempted to go to a baseball game at one of the local high schools, but it’s hard to deal with the stands given my physical issues.

Oh my goodness, I think you’re in the wrong profession my friend. You should’ve been a photographer. Those are some great pictures! I love to look at their faces… they sure come up with some funny ones sometimes!!! hahaha And wow the muscles in their legs you can tell they’ve been doing that a while. They’re amazing. Thank you for the very kind words, but I am far from being a “real” photographer. I just settle into what I am comfortable capturing and let the equipment take care of the heavy lifting. Yes, tough competition and straining muscles produce some interesting expressions.

Great photography. You can’t go wrong with puppies and grandkids. Oh, how I want grandkids, but the kids aren’t making it happen, for me.

Our grandkids are fast becoming grandadults. The last two at home are a sophomore and senior in high school. The other two are out of the house.

I knew that Cockers were originally hunting dogs, I just didn’t know that the woodcock was their specialty. They specialize is flushing the game so that the hunters can shoot the birds. They work well on pheasant, quail, and any bird that spends much of its time in the brush.

You are an accomplished sports photographer (and of other genres as well). Your photos really give a taste for the action going on. I also your discipline in only keeping the photos you really like. I keep almost all of them. I am trying to be better but that is my confession for the day.
