Senior – Class of 2020
The class of 2020 will go down in history at the class bitten by the Corona virus. While none of the students have actually been infected with the virus the entire class has been affected. Their final spring semester in high school has been canceled. No prom, no spring sports, however, a late development has graduation ceremonies rescheduled in July with limited seating. Nearly all of those things that make your senior year a life-milestone have been abandoned. It breaks my heart that these youngsters will not get to experience all of those activities that are typically a part of their final weeks in high school.
Our youngest granddaughter has been a student/athlete throughout her educational experience. She started playing soccer at age 6. She was one of only three players to make the high school junior varsity as a freshman that was not playing travel ball in the off season. As a freshman she also discovered track and eventually settled into high jump. Her sophomore year she won the conference championship and finished 2nd in the state. Her junior year the team won their second straight state championship. Just prior to the pandemic and sheltering orders she finished second at the state indoor championships and had set her third personal best in three meets. She was ranked 25th in the nation overall and number 12 among high school seniors in high jump. She was on track to have a great senior outdoor season and the team was poised to make it three in a row. Fortunately our girl will jump again in college. She has secured a track scholarship to compete at the next level.
I am going to miss photographing this young lady participating in all of her school activities, but if we get the chance to see her compete in college I will be there with my camera to capture the moment.
Driller's Place 
It’s a shame all those kids didn’t get that experience of doing all the fun things seniors get to do, but that smile tells a greater story. She’s not defined by the virus and lost opportunities. She has a lifetime of wonderful achievements in her future.

It is so sad for seniors in high school and college. Mom’s niece is a HS senior and was so involved in everything at school and now she is sitting at home wondering if colleges will even be open in the fall. It is really a raw deal for those kids. College seniors too are really missing out before they have to get into the real world. Very tragic.

It’s hard for seniors all over the country, that’s for sure. Our local schools (upstate New York) are trying to make it up in some ways, such as lawn signs indicating where seniors live. And, who knows, if things don’t go totally right colleges opening in the fall may be doubtful. It’s hard enough for us adults – young people don’t have the same resources to deal with the suddenness and extent of all of this. One thing I am certain of, though – the hardships they are facing now will shape their adult lives in good ways. Your young grandlady has such a wonderful smile!

Sooner or later we are going to have to come our of our shells and begin to move on, knowing that there is always the possibility of at tragedy in our life. Living in fear is not living. And yes, these youngsters will be stronger from the trial.

Yeah, it’s sad. My cousin’s son’s school did something interesting. Each senior was given an appointment to come to the school. The student put on cap and gown and walked across an empty stage. The video of each student will be spliced together, giving the appearance of the entire class walking across the stage at graduation.

I think that’s a marvelous idea. Our local high school has postponed graduation until July with seating limited to immediate family.

They sure have been through it. The graduating seniors here started their freshman year with the Great Flood of 2016, and now this.
Your beautiful and talented granddaughter will go far.

What great achievements for your Granddaughter! Kudos to her and her supportive family! Hopefully she and her classmates will be able later in the summer to celebrate graduation!
