Local Trails

During the past few years Northwest Arkansas has become a hiking and biking trail Mecca. You can literally hike or bike from the Fayetteville town square to the Bentonville town square on a paved trail. Bella Vista has nearly 40 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. There are trails of all kinds and all levels of difficulties everywhere. A couple of weeks ago I drove over to a local trailhead to explore the venue and photograph some fall color. This trailhead had a rest area, parking, and multiple options for enjoying the great outdoors. Here are a few images from my visit.

Monday’s Music Moves Me

Well the theme at 4M this week is to pick songs of musicians born in November. Not braggin’ but I think I hit the jackpot. Two of the Eagles were born in November. Co-founder of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Lyle Lovett, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake and Palmer all have November birthdays. Bonnie Bramlett and Bonnie Rait are November ladies along with Miley Cyrus. Duane Allman, Johnny Rivers, and Eddie Rabbitt are in the mix. The writer and original recording artist of “The Twist”, Hank Ballard is a November boy. I could have a playlist for days from these artists, so where do I start? How about we start with a popular band member.

Steve Van Zandt was born in November. He is a guitarist with Bruce Springsteen’s E-Street band. Van Zandt also landed a role on the Sopranos. One of my favorite Springsteen songs is about a part of life that all of us experience. When we get into our thirties and forties, most of us look back on our high school and early twenties and recall that those were probably our “Glory Days”.

Randy Becker is another band member of one of my favorite groups, Blood Sweat and Tears. Back in the day, BS&T often went head to head with Chicago for the number one record on the charts. The debut album of BS&T was filled with classic hits and I wore that record (vinyl) out. One of my favorite songs from the album was “When I Die”.

How about we honor two November birthday kids in one song. Bonnie Rait and Delbert McClinton…”Good Man, Good Woman”.

Like I said, I could create a playlist for days, but I’m going to close this out with a song from an artist that shares my Birthday, November 20. Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers Band playing Midnight Rider. Have a blessed week.

    Morning Lucy, looks like you don’t want it to be Monday yet. We love trails. Fortunately, MN has trails all over the place and in all the parks and forests too. They are so fun to walk on and great for taking photos. Looks like you picked a pretty time of the year to go for a photo walk.

      Lucy’s image was captured late in the evening and she is more than ready to call it a day, get her snack and go to bed. I have been told that people (millennials in particular) are moving to NW Arkansas because it has become a world class location for mountain and trail biking. I’ve always thought the landscape was world class.

    My friend your dog is just a little heart breaker is all and just too, too cute! I wonder what half cocker spaniel & half Charlie would look like??? hahahaha Anyway, only kiddin’ and I love, love, love the tunes you have chosen this week.     Lucy uses those eyes to get almost anything she wants around here including more than her fair share of snacks. Doggie snack only, of course. Delbert McClinton has been a favorite of mine for a long time and when I saw that duet pop up with Bonnie Rait, it was just too good to be true. Not to worry, a mask in public is our new best friend.

    I think it was after we watched The Soprano’s when we began watching the Netflix original “Lilly Hammer” that I really began familiar with Steven Van Zandt and was then I learned he was guitarist for The Boss. He really shined in that series and I hated it when it ended. Blood, Sweat, & Tears is a classic old band. I remember the song “When I Die” but I didn’t know it was BST who did it. The song puts to mind an old western style film for some reason. I really dig the jazzy bluesy sound of Bonnie & Delbert in “Good Man, Good Woman”. The Allman Brothers slipped under my radar somehow when I was growing up as to who they are. I certainly recognize their mewsic but I think I mentally associated their songs for another band but at the moment I can’t think of who I thought their mewsic was coming from. Too many dust webs in my brain this morning. Thanks for sharing some fabulous tunes and I love your photography session. The burst of sun coming through the trees is just gorgeous!     I had never thought of “When I Die” in a western movie context, but I can see the hero mulling over the thought of the impending gunfight not going well for him.
    There was no filter involved in the photography, just a little luck and being in the right place at the right time.
    There were a number of Southern Rock bands back in the day of the Allman Brothers, but Lynrd Skynrd is probably the one most people think of when the term Southern Rock comes up…kind of like BS&T vs Chicago. Have a blessed week.

    Some nice selections here. I also had that Blood, Sweat and Tears album and was fortunate enough to see them in concert at Disneyworld in 1975. There is some southern rock I really like – Midnight Rider is one of those songs. Bruce Springsteen I run hot and cold on – Glory Days is one of his songs that I really like (along with Born to Run). I watched the entire Sopranos series; can’t believe now how long ago that was. Bonnie Rait/Delbert McClinton’s song was new to me; got my foot to tapping.
