Aww…some Monday’s Music Moves Me

Aww…some Monday

The girl behind the mask is our youngest granddaughter. She is now a freshman in college and on the track team as a high jumper. Her senior year in high school she finished second in the state indoor tournament and then, Covid closed everyone’s season. This past week she is the No. 1 ranked jumper in her conference. That’s her proud parents behind her. Unfortunately the closest meet to us is nearly a six hour drive, so I doubt if we will get to see her compete this year. We will just have to cheer from a distance, but it is shaping up to be and Aww…some season.

Monday’s Music Moves Me

This week at 4M is free choice week. I had so much fun with the old rock ‘n roll tunes from last week, I think I’ll just do Oldies Volume 2. Here we go.

If I say Mac the Knife, will respond Bobby Darin. It was his signature song. However one of the top songs of 1958 was Queen of the Hop by Mr. Darin. You can certainly hear the influence of Chuck Berry, Little Richard and others in this tune.

There were some great groups in early rock ‘n roll, so let’s give a listen to a few.

  2. It’s too bad you can’t see your youngest granddaughter competing but six hours is a long drive. Fabulous oldies for today’s dance party. Thanks for joining the 4M gang, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!

  3. Great playlist and can you watch her via the Internet. I had to do that a couple of times when my son was running junior college track a couple of years ago. Will be rooting for her to do well.

  4. Dad loves Smoky! What a timeless classic. The Shirelles really nail it too. “Mama said, Mama said”
Dads parents had a diner and tunes were always on in the kitchen for the dishwashers. So much good music.

I know you’ll miss seeing and photographing your granddaughter at her meets. Nice oldies playlist. I knew all the songs but the Bobby Darin song. It brings back memories of the hops I was too young to go to. The Shirelles “Mama Said” is a favorite song of mine.

  6. You know, high school students have really taken it hard during this pandemic. I feel that they have had at least a year stolen from them. That said, I’m glad she is sticking with it.

Your videos show such a great time for music. Rock and Roll was bubbling all over the place and doing all sorts of things. And such a different time. When I look at top 40 lists from way back then I remember almost all the songs. Not so these days!!
