Awe…some Mondays/Music Moves Me

The theme for this week’s Monday’s Music Moves me is songs that make you think about autumn and I can think of no better song than the classic from Nat King Cole, “Autumn Leaves.

Of course fall means college football and every college has a fight song. For those of us born and bred in the great state of Oklahoma we stand up for two songs, The National Anthem and “Boomer Sooner”. Happy Fall Y’all!!

  1. Love that song. The leaves are changing here at the marina. Turning yellow. I’m ready for some cooler weather.

We don’t watch sports here. We won’t ever watch another pro football game again. We have lost all respect of them.

    Have a fabulous Awe…some Monday. 🙂

    1. The weather is finally getting cooler and we could be in for a spectacular display of fall color.
I can understand your frustration with the NFL and it’s players.
      Have a blessed week.

  2. Driller,

I love the sound of the old crooners! I grew up listening to them all – Sinatra, Martin, Cosby, Williams,…. I still enjoy this kind of mewsic and I absolutely love it when a youngster tries to fill these vintage crooners shoes by replicating the tone. It would be pAwesome to see this style revived in a new generation. The Sooners…I recall catching them on television several years ago while visiting my in-laws. My late FIL loved football and so does DH but anywho I don’t remember who they were playing but I’m thinking it was a bowl game and they were a lot of fun to watch. Occasionally, we’ll spot them on broadcast tv playing. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with the 4M gang. Have a tunetastic week, my friend!

      1. Driller,

Oh yeah, I forgot about Perry Como. I remembered my mom tuning into his weekly TV show and I loved his Christmas specials. I actually have Christmas albums by all of the crooners except I don’t think I have a Sinatra album. Hmm, I need to double check on that one. Tennessee Ernie Ford was fun to watch on some of the old sitcom’s like The Andy Griffin show but as for listening to his mewsic on a regular basis, it’s not my cup of tea.

  3. I thought I left a comment yesterday… brain is slightly out of order this morning…

Nat King Cole knew how to sing a song, didn’t he? As for the Sooner song, I grew up in the north and most of the schools I attended didn’t have a football team (the two that did might have had a program, but never a team), so I never quite caught “football fever,” but good luck to them!

  4. Sorry to be slow to make my rounds this week. I can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by. Hard to imagine we’ll be in the throws of October this time next week.

Well, you sure can’t go wrong with Nat King Cole! That’s a great kickoff!
I see you’re an OU fan! You know I’m in Austin, right? Land of the Burnt Orange… 🙂
What a rivalry, huh? Being a transplant, I have no real affinity to UT. I’m an NFL girl and don’t follow much college football. I’m a diehard Buffalo Bills fan though. Which doesn’t lead to many celebratory parties…not since the early 90s anyway. But at least they won last week. haha
I yearn for those glory days of Jim Kelly, Doug Flutie and the comeback king Frank Reich…Ahh, those were the days!

    Have a great Sooner season!

    1. I like Austin and the surrounding area for great BBQ, but being born and raised in Oklahoma and an OU alumni, there is very little love loss for the Longhorns. My NFL team is the Cowboys but I preferred the teams of Tom Landry under the leadership of Dandy Don Merideth and Roger Staubach to the current group. Then there is always the Oklahoma connection of Walt Garrison, Troy Aikman, and others from the Sooner state that wore the silver and blue.

Hope you get a chance to stop by and check out Part 1 of my 4-part series on Aging and Getting Old, posted last Monday. I just finished Part 2 which will be posted this coming Monday.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
        Go Bills! 😉
