Aww Mondays

Monday’s Music Moves Me
This week the theme at 4M is free choice. Recently I have put together a budget stereo system in the home office. I had a CD changer from days gone by. I added a receiver and a turntable that I found at a local flea market and the crowning touch, I picked up pair of Bose 301 Series 5 speakers at a local garage sale. I have been looking for a few vinyls (albums to those of us who grew up with them) for my collection. Like most of us I sold my original vinyl collection back in the day when I was no longer playing them very often. I have bought a couple of new vinyls, but the other day I stopped in a local flea market and checked out one of the vendors bins. I came across an album called Trio. The albums was released in 1987 and the trio is Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmy Lou Harris. Their harmonies and arrangements have blown me away, so I am going to share my joy with you.
First up is a pure country song that features Dolly with harmonies by Linda and Emmy Lou. They’re “Making Plans”
Next up is a song that I remember from my youth. Originally released by The Teddy Bears, the trio does this song right, To Know Him is to Love Him.
I love this next song and if you listen closely, you can hear undertones of Man of Constant Sorrow from Oh Brother Where Art Thou. The tune is Those Memories of You.
Believe me, I could post every song, but I will close with a gospel tune. Once again the harmonies are flawless on Farther Along.
I recently discovered that there is a Trio II album that was released in 1997. Yes, I am on the hunt. Have a blessed week.
We also got rid of all of our vinyl LP’s years ago. I still have my 45’s…somewhere in a 45 storage box circa 1968 or similar. I got rid of the paper sleeves, though – why? Maybe to fit more 45’s in the box. Not the brightest thing I ever did. At any rate I have nothing to play them on. Of your selections, must admit, my favorite was the “To Know Him is to Love Him” cover. I sang along on the first verse and then, thereafter, I forgot the rest of the lyrics. Strange how I can forget something that I did five minutes ago but I remember song lyrics from 1959. Sigh…

I am in the same boat some days. I can remember my childhood home phone number, but can’t always recall my next doctor appointment. Oh well. That’s life.

For us, they were just records, now they’re vinyls. Whatever works, the music is still great.

Driller,
I have come to love old country artists such as Dolly over the years. When I was younger I didn’t have much appreciation for this style of music. I think more than anything this genre reminds me of my childhood which kindles my spirit. These ladies do harmonize beautifully. Had you not mentioned “Those Memories of You” similarities to “Man of Constant Sorrow” I might have not made the connection. I’m certain I would’ve thought it reminds me of another song but I wouldn’t be able to put my finger on it. I never do. You ended your music set with a great old gospel hymn and these ladies delivered beautifully. Thanks for sharing and for joining the 4M crew on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!

Like you, when I was in my 20’s, Dolly Parton was the last artist you would find in my collection, but Ronstadt has always been a favorite.
