Aww Mondays
Saturday morning I drove to the county fairgrounds exhibit building to see a model railroad show and sale. It was great fun. There were several running displays and tons of model trains and accessories for sale.
I don’t don’t own a model railroad layout, although I think it would be great fun. I grew up around trains. My dad worked for the Frisco railroad for 42 years. When I was a youngster I got to ride in the cab of a switch engine. I have the overnight trip from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Decatur, Illinois on a train. I have ridden the Wabash Cannonball and Bluebird. Before I started school I would hang out around the small station where dad worked. Later, we moved to Tulsa and I spent a lot of time in the Tulsa Union Depot. It was a beautiful structure. It was designed in the machine art deco style and had a very imposing appearance.
I remember getting a Lionel Train set for Christmas but I didn’t play with it much because I could go down to the train station and ride the real thing.

This is a model of a Frisco switch engine much like the ones I used to ride. Model railroading allows you to pick almost and company and anything from steam engines to modern diesels.

Building the layout is more than half the fun of model railroading. The detail, creativity, and designs are a sight to behold. Many of the layouts are based on small town America of the 30’s, 40’s & 50’s. Those were simpler times and a trip down memory lane can be good for the soul.

Monday’s Music Moves Me
Music can also take us on a trip down memory lane and since this is a free choice week at 4M I may wander that road. One thing I am reminded of is that the older you get the less people care about what you think. People quit asking for your advice or opinion and start opening the door for you and showing you kindness that you used to reserve for your grand parents. Well, now you’re the age your grand parents were their opinions or advice, you would just nod your head and smile, then go on about your business. A song that speaks to this phase of life has been recorded by The Steel Drivers and Chris Stapleton. Where the Rainbows Never Die.
Hubby and I love trains too. A huge Awww.
Love the video and I think hubby and I are older than you are, but your right about your assessment.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, my friend. 🙂

One of the displays is in a small trailer so it can be towed directly to any exhibit site.

Model train set-ups are incredible with their intricate detail! Lovely to see. We visited the Medina Railroad Museum in upper New York state a few years ago and were amazed by their displays.
Hubby and I are 72 and 68, so I know exactly what you mean. The song states it well. 🙂

Some of the layouts take years to complete and some are never truly finished.

Oh very cool train photos! My brothers loved to play with their trains, but all they wanted to do was make them crash! Great song- I am 80 and my sweetie is 78! Whew- I do not know how I got here so fast, but I still feel great! Cheers!

Love looking at these model trains and the towns they see in. Some are very elaborate and I love the details. The music choice works perfectly with this.

Mom loves ice model train set ups. They are a lot of work and you have to have dedication but when done right they are amazing. What a fun place to visit.

You have to be part architect, part electrical engineer, and part model builder to do it right and I have seen some spectacular examples.

Model trains are fun but you’re right, if you have the real thing, you didn’t need the models.
Have a blessed week!

I could see myself getting involved in model trains, but they do take up space. I used to build model cars as a kid and a few model buildings as an architect.

Well, hey, hey, HEY! It’s XmasDolly saying a big HELLO & I MISSED YA MY FRIEND! YEP, Dolly is back. Did I ever tell you the story about my name? Well, Dolly is only a nickname my Dad gave me because I was supposed to be called Patricia or Susan (I named my first daughter both! Patricia Susan & we call her “TRICIA”! She’s the cutest little thing, but my Dad on the day I was born got a ticket coming to the hospital cuz the police man didn’t believe him I guess & got a ticket for speeding! WHAT A BUMMER! Anyway, my dad said my crib was in the corner by the toys & he just thought I was another toy cuz I was so tiny! hehehehe Thus “Dolly” came to be my nickname! So, there ya go!!! How ya be my friend??? GREAT I hope! Missed you & all, but I’m back for good. It took me a while to come back because I forgot everything, but my friends to the rescue. Cathy, held down the fort for me & did a darn good job, didn’t she? And Sandy she joined in too & kinda took my place as another head to count. I’ve got such good friends and you too! I heard you stuck it out with the girls. YOU’RE THE BEST MY FRIEND AND THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! Talk to ya later cuz I’m stayin’ for good this time! hehehe- Unfortunately, I forgot everything so I’m tryin’ to get my blog back in place if I can remember. Sandy & Cathy helped me put my old blog back together again. I feel like humpty dumpty trying to put things back together, but unfortunately my thinker doesn’t work as good as it use too so Cathy & Sandy has been helping me. They’re GREAT friends! God bless dear friend! Hope all is well with you and yours!!!! Hugs, Marie

My husband and I are both 70, and I remember my first train ride that wasn’t the NYC subway or the Long Island Railroad – from Tampa, Florida to Grand Central Station when the airlines went on strike in 1966. I was so amazed at the scenery as we passed through various states. My husband has fond memories of playing with model trains, both his and his cousin’s. Enjoyed the song, too. Alana ramblinwitham
