2023 Christmas Music Marathon Day 6

Isaiah 7:14 revealed to the ancient world that the sign of the arrival of the Messiah would be a virgin born child. 800 years later the angel Gabriel visits Mary and tells her she has found favor with God and will conceive and birth the Son of God. Mary was barely a teenager when God selected her to bring the Savior into this lost and dying world. The first chapter of Luke records the conversation between the angel of the Lord and the mother of Christ. After a brief explanation, Mary yielded herself to God. We don’t know much about Mary’s pregnancy other that it ended in Bethlehem. I am sure we would like to know if Mary understood the magnitude of her decision and exactly what was about to happen. The song asks, “Mary Did You Know?”d

  1. There’s barely a second thought today when there’s a pregnancy outside of marriage, I can’t imagine the weight placed on Mary’s shoulders she carried. I suspect Mary tried understanding like any of us would but in truth there’s always more than any of us can see with human eyes. Mary took the responsibility to bear the Savior with blind trust that God would bring her through the process. I was in my mid 20s when I was expectant with our first child. I can’t imagine doing that as a young teenager like Mary. She was a special woman for sure. I love today’s beautiful song picks! We’ll see Kathy Mattea next week at Christmas at the Grand Ole Opry performance we’ll be attending. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Kathy Matea is just one of the artist performing at the Opry’s Christmas show. Trace Adkins is another. There are a few others which escape my mind. I believe it will be a wonderful evening. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I am slow on the uptake.
Mary Did You Know is one of my time favorite “new” hymns. And Mattea’s take may be the best I’ve ever heard.

Breath of Heaven is new to me. I love it.

    1. Yes sir, Kathy Matea’s recording was the first I ever heard of Mary Did You Know. It was on a CD collection call Mother and Child and various female artists delivered Christ songs. It is one of my favorite albums and Kath’s arrangement of Mary Did You Know is still my all time favorite. The message is so simple, yet powerful.
