Aww…some Monday – A Day at the Track

Monday’s Music Moves Me

This week at 4M is freedom of choice. Every once in a while everyone needs to step out of their comfort zone and experience something a little different so I am going to start with a group I love doing a whole different genre of music. I love the acapella group Voiceplay. They have released several exquisite videos and the bass singer is in a league of his own. Recently they released this video that is a Linken Park cover. It is something special.

Moving right along I have chosen a song with a very somber message. Only those who have gone through the experience of losing a loved one to dementia or Alzheimer’s can truly appreciate the lyrics and message in this haunting work from Larkin Poe.

I have to admit, I admire anyone who is proficient at playing a musical instrument, almost any instrument. Some of the finest guitarists come out of the blues, country, and bluegrass genres. Beginning with Chet Atkins and following through Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Vince Gill, country has some amazing guitar players. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Bonamassa, and others hold up their end in blues. Beginning with Doc Watson, and current mainstream bluegrass phenom Billy Strings are the core of bluegrass. So I picked bluegrass, featuring Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings.

Have a blessed week.

    1. I just decided that I can still shoot some of the events and send the photos to the coaches for them to distribute to the athletes and their families. Time will tell if this will work out.

Three great songs by people I had never heard of before. Larkin was my favorite. My brother is in hospice here in Tulsa and is pretty far gone with dementia. Very frustrating for everybody involved.

    1. It did feel good to be back on the sidelines shooting sports. I missed it and the rust was certainly evident in my operation of the equipment and composition of some images. Not to worry, there is always next week. Have a blessed week my friend.

  3. Nice photos! I always enjoy seeing your action shots. 🙂

Also, I enjoyed your music this week. VoicePlay might be new to my ears unless I just forgot. I do that sometimes. I am going to YT to sample more by them. They did a good job covering Linkin Park’s song.

Happy St. Patty’s Day and thanks for joining us on the 4M dance floor, my friend! 🌈🍀

  4. I have featured VoicePlay and their bass singer before, but this is certainly the most unique video they have released. They are a great group. You might also what to check out Home Free for a similar vibe. Glad you enjoyed the images.

love that last one with such intricate hand work on the guitar. The one about “Mad as a Hatter” is sad. My mom had vascular dementia and she lived with me and my spouse but we realized she could get better if she went to long term care. I worked full time and my hubby was home with her so he got a lot of grief. She almost burnt my home down once with the microwave and another with her cigarette. She was down to 78 lbs and refused to eat but, once she was in long term care and on a routine, she was back up to and a bit passed her 125lbs. She knew who I was, my brother and my hubby but could fake the rest. She could always talk and was known to be “feisty.” You suffer 2 deaths, the death of the person you always knew and the death of the person who lives in the shadows. I miss her so very much.

    1. I still tell people that I didn’t lose my mom when she passed away, I lost her the day she no longer knew who I was and when she looked at me, there was no longer love and joy in her face, just a blank stare in her eyes. I still hurts and I still miss her.

Thank you for introducing me to Larkin Poe. That is one powerful song. I lost my mother in law to several medical issues, but the icing on her cake was her descent into dementia (a quick one) over her last year of life. The day she didn’t recognize me (she had known me for 48 years) was….well, anyone who has been a caregiver for someone with dementia knows. The cover of Heavy Is the Crown, I think, was a little better than the original (and I am a Linkin Park fan). Happy to see you will be getting back into sports photography – you are excellent at it.
