Aww…some Monday

Monday’s Music Moves Me
The theme this week is supposed to be The modern bikini debuted in the mid 40s this month. Let’s celebrate the occasion with song picks about swimwear and/or water fun! However Cathy also reminded us that any kind of music is also welcome. Well, when you mentions swimwear and water fun in the same sentence, many people will think of the beach and if you grew up in the sixties that meant surf music and fast cars. So my first offering comes from the The Rip Chords.

The mid-sixties birthed muscle cars. It all began with a relative tame 1964 Mustang with a 289 V8. By the late sixties every one of the big three American manufacturers had an engine exceeding 400 cubic inches and 400 horsepower stuffed into a Mustang size car and the beach scene had a song about everyone of them. Here are a few examples. Long live the hot rod. Have a blessed week.
Thank you, that was fun!

The surf was up in the mid-sixties and the Beach Boys were catching the biggest waves.

Gotta love the Beach Boys! Mom saw them in concert in the 80’s and said it was a blast. It was in the old Metrodome and there were hundreds of beach balls in the air all the time.

As a high school junior and again as a senior, I saw the Beach Boys in concert in Tulsa, OK. For one concert I had seats on the 7th row and I think the tickets were an astronomical $7.50!!! Good times for sure.

There was some awesome music in the 60’s, despite being surrounded by civil unrest and the Vietnam war.

in the 60s, bikinis and cars worked in symbiotic unity..lol. my hubby dreams of owning that certain model Mustang. He said it’s rare. Dune buggies were big too.

In 1965 the Shelby GT350 was the rarest of the Mustangs. By 1969 Ford had produced the Boss 429 and Shelby had built the Gt 500. I don’t think any of the cost over $4,000 when they were built. Today, each of them will fetch six or even seven figures. The green Mustang used in the movie Bullitt sold for $3.5 million. a few years back. I had a ’68 coupe, which was cheaper than the fastback model. I traded it for a 1971 Datsun 240Z! I would love to have both of them back.

The Beach Boys have some fabulous music. They (one of the original guys at least) were on a Capital 4th. It’s always such fun to see the older artist performing. With a name like “Beach Boys” you can’t help but think of summertime fun and swimsuits, right?
