This is a Yellow Swallowtail butterfly. I captured this image last year. It turns out that they like parsley and dill. We had some of those plants in a raised flower bed and the caterpillars laid them to waste. This year my wife planted some more parsley and dill and this past week it was evident that we are going to have yellow swallowtails again!!! Here are a few images of this year’s caterpillars. In a couple of weeks, I will have a whole new crop of butterflies to photograph.

I would say, “Hooray for butterflies” but I’m sure you want some home grown parsley and dill. Maybe next time use the bug netting over some of the plants, so you can have some for you and some for them.
Happy summer to you!

I believe the plan will be to plant twice as much parsley and dill and cover some of it.

It is an amazing process to watch. The transformation takes place under ground. That’s why they love our raised bed. The soil is extra soft and rich.

The caterpillars are willing models and make capturing the images easy. In a couple of weeks they will be butterflies and much harder to keep in the frame.

I believe Trace Adkins is a much under appreciated voice in country music. He’s not a bad actor either.

I used to see a ton of butterflies, the monarch, but now it’s just 1 or 2, sadly. You captured this butterfly well. I love the colours. The music is fun and the crowd went wild when Jimmy Buffet showed up.

Butterfly season is just starting here in NW Arkansas. The monarchs are just now arriving. I hope to see a lot of them in the next week or two.

Beautiful photos. I remember, when I lived in Arkansas, having some problems growing parsley and dill. I had forgotten because it was so long ago, and I’ve never had this problem here in New York State. But I’ve seen so few butterflies this year and it’s concerning. Fun song set. I liked the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song the best this week. Alana ramblinwitham
