Aww…some Monday’s Music Moves Me

Texas Hill Country 2019

In April of 2019 my wife and I took a driving trip through Texas Hill Country so see the blue bonnets in bloom. March and April are the prime months for the countryside to explode into blue carpets of flowers and people come from near and far to observe and photograph the display.

I was going through some old photos and came upon these images and decided to share them with you. A couple of them were a part of a post I did soon after we returned home and a couple of them were created very recently. Sometimes you find a photo within a photo or an image just needs a little more tweeking. Have a blessed week.

The image above is from a park in Johnson City, TX. The original image was cropped to 8×10. I re-edited the original image in PhotoShop Elements 2026 and On1 Effects, then cropped it for the possibility of posting as my spring header image.

The original posted image included several more blooms. I decided to use the photo technique called, “Fill the Frame” and isolate one bloom. I like this one.

This image was cleaned up and cropped to 8×10, then I decided to have some fun with filters in PhotoShop Elements. Here ya go.

One more example, the image below is straight out of the camera.

This was a fabulous vacation and I would recommend a Texas Hill Country road trip to anyone.

Monday’s Music Moves Me

The theme this week is whatever music moves you. I can live with that. The other day I was driving around town shooting a few image in one of my favorite flea markets. I had my radio on Sirus – Chris Stapleton station. This song came on and it moved me. I had to share it with you. If the sound seems a little familiar to you, these two are long time members of the Allman Brothers band. The second video features The Brothers which is basically the current version of the Allman Brothers Band. Buckle up, this is real music.

      Looking back, I would love to have just focused on my home state of Oklahoma and driven through every nook and cranny of the state, photographing everything I found interesting. I would love to have started as a teen, when some statehood residents were still alive to photograph and interview.

      I have reached that age when some people might ask me how it was to grow up in the 60’s. Still photography keeps me moving. Looking forward to high school soccer and track season.

    we got 2ft of snow and it’s a high of -12C today so love seeing those beautiful blue flowers. L9ve your photos and interesting how the home, in colour, looks inviting, but, in black and white, it looks ghostly.

    I was in Texas Hill Country once – out of season. Bad timing. I’ve always wanted to see the flower display, and enjoyed all your pictures. Beautiful. I also enjoyed the music. Yes, real music in your post. That first selection almost blew me away. I’ll have to come back another time for the rest of the concert. Hoping you survived the snow OK. Alana ramblinwitham

    I lived in Texas for years and spent a lot of time on the road in my job and springtime with the bluebonnets was just spectacular. That was a long time before I ever really got into photography. How I wish I captured some of those scenes. I am a big fan of almost everything Texas. The landscape, the vegetation, trees, and flowers, their courthouses, and history. I love your re-edits. I do a little bit of that and need to do more. On the skywatch friday page for instance I make the header photo of our ten year old photos that I have.

    That last song with Susan Tedeschi is just killer. Old Lee Russell still haunts Tulsa. I’ve met so many people here who claimed to be friends or at least acquaintances of his when he went to high school here. He had major talent back then, and played a lot of music at his church. You might even know him. If I remember right, he went by a different name back then. His grave marker at Memorial Cemetery is a major work of art and so him.

      You can always make plans to do a bluebonnet tour. Spring is just around the corner.

      Yes, I lived in Tulsa during the height of the Leon Russell era. I never met Leon personally but I attended one of his concerts at the fairgrounds. It was an all day long festival affair that also featured Willie Nelson.

      When Leon came off the road and was between tours, it was not unusual for him to just show up at one of the local clubs and sit it with the house band. He might make three or four stops in one night and word that Leon was making the rounds would spread like wildfire, but it was anybody’s guess where he would play next. The Tulsa Sound was loud and strong with J. J. Cale, Rita Coolidge and Elvin Bishop as frequent visitors to Leon’s church studio. Good times.
