Aww…some Monday’s Music Moves Me

Aww…some Monday

We have several squirrels in our neighborhood. I have a bird feeder in the back yard and the squirrels hang out on the ground eating the seeds that the birds kick out of the feeder. I have had as many as four of these critters around the feeder at one time. When I let Lucy outside, she literally sneaks out onto the patio without them spotting her, then she does what cocker spaniels are supposed to do. She flushes them like a covey of quail and I get to capture Rocky and his friends scrambling in all directions, climbing the fence and leaving the area. When they’re not running from Lucy, the squirrels have spent their spare time trying to break into my birdseed source.

I have a five gallon bucket and lid that I got from Lowe’s. The lid seals the birdseed very well. The squirrels have literally tried to chew the lit off of the bucket to get to the birdseed. There are small pieces of blue plastic on the patio and the lid looks like it was attacked by a chainsaw. It looks like Lucy is going to have a very busy spring guarding the bucket and chasing these little bandits.

Monday’s Music Moves Me

This week at 4M is freedom of choice, meaning there is no theme and I can play anything I want, which is pretty much what I do anyway. I don’t really have a theme this week either so I thought I might just pick some songs and artists that are new to me. First up is Willow Avalon. I have never heard of her but she is a new country artist and this sound is one that is becoming popular in Nashville these days. Only time will tell if Willow is going to be a long time resident of Music City.

What do you get when you have an Englishman from Birmingham, UK, playing the sort of vintage two-steppin’ tunes that country’s founding fathers would be proud of? The unique and intriguing sound of Dom Glynn & His Sunday Best. I love these guys!

Kashus Culpepper hit it big in 2024 with the release of his tune ’After Me?’ to viral acclaim. From there, the hits just kept on coming, soulful country offerings like ‘Who Hurt You’ and ‘Out Of My Mind’ following and drawing more and more fans to his undeniable talent. Yet, there’s still so much more on the horizon for this quickly rising star.

Let’s wrap this up with Lanie Gardner, who has the only song here that I have ever heard. She wrote and recorded this song for the movie “Twister”. Have a blessed week.

  1. Those tree rats are ruthless! We chase them sometimes but most of the time we give up and prefer to look for rabbits. Mom sometimes puts food out to get more squirrels so we have something to chase and play with.

    1. I honestly didn’t think they could climb the small diameter rod that the feeder is on, but I am now pretty sure they can. Lucy loves chasing them but, like you guys, bunnies are her favorite.

  2. I’ve actually seen squirrels climb onto one of my bird feeders!

I have a huge bag of peanuts in the shell. After the last snowstorm I put some peanuts out for the squirrels so that they’d leave the bird feeders alone. It worked.

  3. Squirrels are hilarious. They are fun to watch. Lucy is a great helper for you to get those action shots of those little guys going nuts. lol Great music! All new to me tunes. I’m going to YouTube to sample more of Kashus’ music. I like his style and I noticed that he’s a Patsy Cline fan. Cool! Thanks for joining us on the dance floor. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!

    1. I need to video Lucy & the squirrels.

I was very impressed with Kashus and may feature him later. I love Dom & His Sunday Best. They have a 10 minute video that features their instrumental prowess as well as vocals. Have a blessed week.

  4. I call them tree rats. I would love to see Miss Lucy doing her thing. Our angel Little Bit did the same things. She loved chasing them. Never caught any, but she had fun chasing. You capture that little bugger very well.

Love the videos. I always love your music.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, my friend. 🙂

yes, the squirrel loves getting to the seed. We bought a bird feeder that is so nice for the birds but when the squirrel tries to get to the seed, the heaviness triggers the bird feeder to start moving around like the swings. A couple of them would try and hang on only to fly away…too funny! I enjoyed the music …lots of fun.

  6. Squirrels are great entertainment. I suggest what Ms. G uses for her birdseed, old timey metal garbage cans with the tight fitting lids. Even the raccoons can’t get into them.

Fun music, especially Dom Glynn and His Sunday Best, they’re playing my song!

  7. The real entertainment is when Lucy comes to a point just before the squirrels spot her. They scatter to the four winds and Lucy runs the fence line just to be sure they’re gone. I really need to get it on video.

I read once that squirrels were introduced to our country by some well meaning person. I don’t know if that’s true but if so, thanks for nothing, person who did that. I can’t begin to catalog all the squirrels vs my husband encounters as he tried to prevent the squirrels from invading our squirrel proof (ha!) feeder. Still there is something really cute about them. I would enjoy any videos you posted, mainly because your squirrels are hundreds of miles from where I live. Alana ramblinwitham

    1. A lot of things have been introduced into this country by well meaning folks, only to turn into health hazards and environmental disasters. People selling bearded lizards as pets has turned Florida into an iguana nightmare. People introduced kudzu for erosion control and now the plant will suffocate whole sections of a forest. At least squirrels can be entertaining and are edible, depending on how you roll.
