Aww…some Monday – County Fair
This past week has been county fair week in our area. Our fair is not huge and the main event for me is found in the livestock building where the kids are showing off their animals. I was there the morning that goats were being judged. I think this is one advantage that country kids have over city kids. Raising an animal practically birth to show ready teaches a child a wealth of life skills. They learn to provide for another living being. The kids are responsible for feeding, watering, grooming, providing shelter, exercising and everything associated with caring for another. I find that far more valuable than X-Box or Travel ball world champion.

This was my pick as the prettiest goat at the fair.

Monday’s Music Moves Me
It’s a freedom of choice week at 4M, so I don’t have to base my selections on a specific theme. With that in mind, I’m going to feature a group that I have really enjoyed the past year or so and played a couple of their songs here before. Once more, I give you Red Clay Strays. Have a blessed week.
It is always amazing how well young kids handle animals and it is a good experience to learn to care for an animal and the discipline it requires.

Unlike the city “Mom, can I have a pet dog? please?” cliche where Mom ends up with all the care of the dog, a rural child truly has to care for their project animal daily, through all kinds of weather, in the morning before catching the school bus, at night before tending to themselves, and without any days off. It’s quite an education.. Nice photos of the goats. You can see how proud the children and teens are of their animals. Of the music, I enjoyed the first two songs the best. Alana ramblinwitham

I think the fact that the kids are required to take full responsibility for the care and feeding of the animals is an awesome thing. I think videos 1,3,5 are my favorites but I am a big fan of Red Clay Strays.

You’re right, it’s a wonderful advantage. I couldn’t give my kids that, but we did bottle raise orphaned kittens the whole time they were growing up so they know a little of it.
You choose excellent music!

I was a city kid growing up in the country when I was a kid. I knew all sorts of people who raised animals for the country fair. It was a lot of work.
