Aww…some Monday’s Music Moves Me

Monday’s Music Moves Me

Independence Part II

Last week was a free choice week but I couldn’t resist jumping ahead and posting music about this week’s theme, Songs of with an Independent theme, either personal or national. For most of us Independence means freedom and being free to live our own lives. Our first real experience with freedom is when we gain access to a car. Our freedom expands when we move out on our own. Occasionally we find that freedom is a little too expensive so we move back in with our parents for a while. Finally, we take the leap and leave the nest to make our own way in this world. We find out that there really is no such thing as a “Free Ride”.

Last week I focused on the national pride and independence. This week I am just going to put together a collection of songs about being free on some level. Enjoy.

  1. A great selection this week. “Free Ride” a great rock song. I was not familiar with the John Mayer cover of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin'” he did a good job. Rick Nelson – I was part of the Ozzie and Harriot generation and fell in love with Rick Nelson – taken from us too soon by a plane crash Garth Brooks impressed me with asong I only wish could come true. And Born Free a song I learned by heart as a child. If I saw the movie it was many many years ago. Have a wonderful week!

  3. Good choices here. I really liked Rick Nelson’s song. It’s a shame he didn’t get much airplay after “Garden Party,” oddly the song that explained why he didn’t get much airplay when he went country. I used Andy Williams’s version of “Born Free” because, you know, Andy Williams….

Great selection of songs. Born Free is one of my favorites. I got sick of it the summer after sixth grade. I was part of a big community wide concert in the little town of Price, Utah and we played it over and over for weeks. But hey, the result sounded good!!

  5. John,

Your mewsic continuation for the theme is wonderful. Kids don’t realize what a free ride they have until it’s too late and it’s only after they’ve lived on their own that they truly come to understand how good they had it at home.

Incidentally, sorry your thumbnail didn’t show up. The linky tools admin moves some images to a different location which is why it got lost in translation. I fixed it this morning by pulling the only visible image from your webpage. I couldn’t upload the design that I made for you. Hopefully, I can get that added for next week. Thanks for picking such a great theme for this week and for being this month’s honorary co-host. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!
