The theme this week at 4M is songs about animals. While Lucy is the subject of the Aww Monday post, I will spare you the experience of listening to “How Much is That Doggie in The Window”. You’re welcome.
First up this week is a song about a dog. Everybody thought Ol’ Red was the best tracking hound in the state, but someone found a way to distract this canine from his primary job.
Reaching even further back into the country charts is a song I remember my dad liking when I was just a youngster. Eddy Arnold was a country singer with the voice of a pop crooner like Sinatra. The song, “Tennessee Stud”.
This last song has a local story behind it. When we moved to Bentonville, Arkansas in 1987 the local high school mascot was the tiger. I don’t remember what college march was being used as the school fight song, but by 1990 a song from Rocky III became the new fight song for the school and continues to this day, “Eye of the Tiger”. Have a blessed week.
Lucy after “Spa Day”. She has had a bath, her hair cut, and nails trimmed. The House Princess looks and feels like a million bucks.
Local Farmers Market
Every Saturday morning the town square turns into a farmers market. The vendors are open at 7:30 a.m. and by 8:30 a.m. there are hundreds of people shopping for flowers, vegetables, jellies, even a blacksmith is turning out items for sale.
You can get your morning cup of coffee and browse the other vendors wares.
There are some lovely murals adorning the walls of buildings and a myriad of public artwork in our town these days. I will have to do a special post featuring some of the better pieces. This was my first real adventure since my knee replacement and I have been cleared to drive and resume normal activities. I am already looking forward to next week.
Monday’s Music Moves Me
This week the theme at 4M is free choice. It is no secret that I like inspirational music and the hymns of the church are at the top of my list. Recently Carrie Underwood released an album titled “My Savior”. Later today I will be purchasing this audio delight. Here are a few examples.
The first song takes me back to my youth and church camp. Falls Creek is located in southern Oklahoma and is the largest Baptist youth camp in the world. In my teens, as many as 9000 attended a six day camp and there were six sessions. One of my all time favorite hymns is a memory from Falls Creek and Carrie does the best arrangement I believe I have heard in decades. I can actually hear a little Patsy Cline influence.
We are entering the end of an era. This is our grandson and he will graduate from high school next spring. That will mean that all of our grandchildren have graduated and we will be something similar to “Empty Nesters” again. We have spent summer vacations together, attended baseball games, soccer matches, track meets, choir concerts, and dance competitions involving the grand kids. That era is coming to an end with the graduation of the big guy. It’s been a great adventure.
Monday’s Music Moves Me
This week the theme at 4M is songs that feature fantasy, magic, or fairy tales Let’s see what we can find.
When summer rolls around Lucy, our house princess, also assumes the roll of patio princess.
Monday’s Music Moves Me
Our honorary hostess for this month is Marie from Xmas Dolly. Marie has asked us to select some of our favorite songs from the 80’s and 90’s. Around our house Country music ruled in the 90’s and the decade was certainly a high water mark for this genre. Country music in the 90’s gave us superstars like Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Martina McBride, Brooks and Dunn, just to name a few. Some of my favorite music came from lesser known artists. They had several hits in the 90’s but they never reached superstar status. Suzy Bogguss is one of those artists and “Aces” is one of those songs.
I am having significant issues with trying to access Curious as a Cathy’s website. I keep getting a strange message that says a security risk is involved. I had to wait until others posted so I could get the theme for the day. Turns out that the theme is free choice week and Xmas Dolly is our conductor.
Today is also Flag day, which is probably the most overlooked and under celebrated patriotic holiday in the U. S. A. I do have a flag that will fly in front of our house today but I will resist the temptation to use this free choice post to conjure up additional patriotic songs. Instead, I will wonder into some of my favorite music. Recently I put a stereo system together in the home office. I bought a receiver at a local flea market, scored some great Bose 301 series V speakers from a local online garage sale, and added my own 5 disc CD changer. I think CD’s will follow a similar path as Vinyls. Why throw hundreds of perfectly good CD’s away just because I can bluetooth my music now? I still like the sound of my stereo that fills the room and I still like the music that I have owned over the past twenty years, so I am keeping my collection alive and well. Here are a few of my favorite artists in the collection.
First up is Eric Clapton. I have been a fan of Eric since his days with Cream. He has gone from iconic rock guitar/vocalist to iconic blues guitar/vocalist. His music is ageless. Enjoy.
Next up is a duet. Who would have thought that rocker Robert Plant and blue grass queen Alison Krauss would ever get together for an album of duets. The album is Raising Sand and the song I choose is “Gone, Gone, Gone”.
It seems that iconic artists like duet albums. One of Ray Charles last albums was Genius Loves Company. The album took some of Ray’s greatest hits from his country albums and added a new dimension with a guest vocalist. My choice is Ray and Diana Krall singing, “You Don’t Know Me”.
Well that’s what I’m listening to these days and I am enjoying the trip through my CD collection. Have a blessed week.
